World TB Day 2023 Celebration at GIMS
World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated every year on 24th March. The year 2023 is critical to push forward the agenda toward ending TB in India. As of 2021, India contributes to 28 per cent of the global TB burden. The emphasis is on eliminating TB by the year 2025 as stated by the Government of India. The theme for this year was “Yes! We Can End TB!”. The Department of Community Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine at GIMS Greater Noida organized a CME and other activities to observe the day.
A CME was organized which included health talks from experts in the field. Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, CMS and Dr. Rambha Pathak, Dean, talked about introduction to tuberculosis and epidemiology of tuberculosis respectively. Dr. Anurag Srivastava, Professor, Department of Community Medicine, briefed the audience about the theme for World TB Day 2023. The Director of the institute Dr. (Brig) Rakesh Gupta stated that a nearby village will be adopted by the institute to help eliminate TB in the area. The District TB Officer, Dr. Sirish Jain was the guest speaker at the event, who talked about the national and district level prospects of TB elimination. Dr. Reena, WHO Consultant for TB, discussed the current status and future prospects for TB Elimination by the year 2025.
The students of GIMS were also involved in the World TB Day celebration. A quiz competition and poster making competition was organized by the Department of Pulmonary Medicine which received an enthusiastic response. The students were made aware of various aspects of TB elimination through these activities.
